Our Staff

 

Nikki Pritchett, Ph.D.
Director
Licensed Psychologist

Nikki is the Director of the University Counseling Center and a licensed psychologist. She earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kentucky in 1984. Prior to coming to FSU in 1999, she spent 13 years at the University of Kentucky's Counseling and Testing Center serving in a variety of capacities as Director, Associate Director, Coordinator of Outreach and Staff Psychologist. Nikki's areas of interest and research include counseling interventions with college students, grief and loss, women's issues and multicultural concerns. Her approach to therapy and supervision is integrative and informed by systems, psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral orientations. Nikki is active in state and national professional organizations, serves on a number of FSU committees, and volunteers her time with the Big Bend Hospice Caring Tree Program.

David Gitlin, Ph.D.
Associate Director
Licensed Psychologist

David received his degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Florida in 1988. He is a member of the American Psychological Association. He is eclectic in orientation, relatively directive in style, with strong influences from cognitive approaches to short-term counseling. He has special interests in anxiety disorders, existential-developmental issues and interpersonal relationship issues.

Felecia Cherry-Hansel
Receptionist

Felecia Cherry-Hansel, our receptionist, is the first person most people talk to and see when they visit our Center. She was recognized again this year at the Division of Student Affairs’ Awards Ceremony. Felecia was honored with the “Mover and Shaker Award” which is given to a DSA staff person who demonstrates a “can do” attitude, and consistently initiates and encourages positive change to services and programs. Felecia multitasks like no other, and warms the hearts of many students in distress with her friendly welcome, often remembering the names of students who return to our office. We are lucky to have Felecia on our staff and proud that others in the Division recognize her invaluable contribution to the services that The University Counseling Center provides.

 

Jori Collette, Ed.S.
Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Jori earned her graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling from Florida State University in 1995.  She is licensed by the state of Florida and has worked at The University Counseling Center since 1996.   Her theoretical orientation is eclectic with a cognitive-behavioral and family systems focus. Jori's particular areas of professional interest are stress/time management, self-esteem and post-abortion issues. She has also served many years as an instructor for the First Year Experience class which helps incoming freshmen adjust to life at a university.

 

 

Jeannie Corredor, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist

Jeannie received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the State University of New York at Albany in 2003. She is of Puerto Rican descent and is bilingual (speaks English and Spanish). Jeannie is an active member of the American Psychological Association and relocated from New York City to Tallahassee to work with the college population in October 2007. Since her graduate school years, she has been passionate about diversity issues and has coordinated a number of programs aimed at increasing people's awareness of different cultures and celebrating diversity. Jeannie's approach to therapy and supervision is eclectic, primarily integrating cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic and systems appoaches. In addition to multcultural issues, other professional interests include identity development, gender roles, issues related to first year college students to attend college, and developmental issues.

Barbara Davidov, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist

Barbara Davidov received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Miami, as well as her Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is fluent in both French and Spanish. Barbara is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Florida Psychological Association. She recently relocated to Tallahassee from South Florida, and began working at the University Counseling Center in 2008. In Miami, she gained experience working with individuals from all cultures, especially Latinos and Caribbean Islanders. Her passion lies with multicultural diversity issues and she is a published author in the American Psychologist, co-authoring an article titled “The Virtue of Multiculturalism.” Her other clinical interests include adjustment difficulties to new culture or place, relationship issues, healthy sexual behaviors, and sexual education. Her clinical approach is to understand the individual within the context of his or her family and society while looking at that person’s intrapsychic struggles through a psychodynamic lens.

Jane Dorhout
Office Administrator

Jane is our Office Administrator. She joined the Counseling Center in December 2007 after more than 30 years at FSU. Before coming to the UCC she worked in Academic Affairs and for Finance and Administration, but this is her first appointment in The Division of Student Affairs. Jane manages the day-to-day operations of the Center, manages and reconciles our budget, supervises our support staff, and prepares HR and travel paperwork for the staff.

Josh Gross, Ph.D.
Group Coordinator
Licensed Psychologist

Josh is a graduate of the California School of Professional Psychology at Los Angeles in 1981 and received his Diplomate from the American Board of Professional Psychology in Group Psychology in 1999. He is listed in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology and the National Registry of Certified Group Psychotherapists. He holds the Certificate of Professional Qualification in Psychology from the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards. In 1992 he received the Certificate of Professional Studies in Individual Psychology from the Americas Institute of Adlerian Studies. Josh writes, leads workshops, and teaches on various topics relating to group psychotherapy.

James Hennessey, Ph.D.
Director of Intern Training
Licensed Psychologist

James received his degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1983. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Florida Psychological Association, and has been a board member and Membership Chair of the Association of Counseling Center Training Agencies. His theoretical orientation is a blend of psychodynamic, systems and cognitive behavioral theory. James' professional interests include Object Relations Theory, Self Psychology, the treatment of personality disorders, shyness and social anxiety, men's issues and international student concerns. He is also a member of the FSU Public Safety Committee. Off campus, James is a member of the Red Cross Mental Health Disaster Team and volunteers for a number of wildlife and environmental organizations.

Naoya Izawa, Psy.D.
Licensed Psychologist

Naoya came to the United States from Japan to earn his B.A. and M.A. in psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University, NJ. He completed his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Hartford, CT. His professional interests include minority issues, developmental issues, and positive psychology. Naoya's theoretical orientation is integrative with emphasis on client centered, humanistic, existential approaches and cognitive-behavioral therapy.

Charley Mack, MSW, LCSW, CAP
Certified Addiction Professional
Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Charles received his Master's Degree in Social Work from Indiana University in 1970. He was licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida in 1982 and certified as an Addiction Professional in 1994. He is a member of the Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association and was one of their Professionals of the Year in 1992. He oversees the enhancement of the center's substance abuse services and participates in university-wide activities which promote and enhance these services

Byron T. Pack, Psy.D.
Licensed Psychologist

Byron is a licensed Psychologist in the state of Florida and has earned his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne , FL [2002]. He has also earned masters degrees in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, FL and The University of West Florida, Pensacola, FL . Byron earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA. His theoretical orientation is based in Cognitive Behavioral techniques, with an emphasis on Psychodynamic and Reality based approaches. He has professional interests in teaching various psychology and assessment courses, student adjustment/developmental issues, interpersonal/relationship, cross-cultural, and men's concerns. In addition, Byron has clinical interests in psychological and personality assessment, anxiety disorders, along with stress management, relaxation and anger management techniques.

Gail Palo, Ed.S., LMHC
Assistant Director of Intern Training
Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Gail received her Ed.S. in Counseling from Florida State University in 1992. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and National Certified Counselor. Her theoretical orientation is psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral. Gail's clinical interests include sexual orientation and related issues, relationships, trauma and recovery, and developmental issues of college students. She serves as the area-wide coordinator for Safe Zone - Tallahassee, Florida, an ally network for people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered.

Dominica Parrott, MSW, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Dominica received her Master of Social Work degree from Florida State University in 1987 and was licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in 1993. Her theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral and Psychodynamic. Dominica’s clinical interests include mood disorders, trauma work, spirituality, Adult Children of Alcoholics/ Addicts and grief concerns. She enjoys working with college students on developmental issues of transition and adulthood. She serves as a member of the Florida Council on Crime and Delinquency and is a member of NASW. She volunteers her time to The American Cancer Society.

Jessie Spraggins, M.S.
Art Therapist

Jessie Spraggins received her Masters degree in Art Therapy from Florida State University in 2008, and is currently working towards her art therapist registration and board certification. She is an active member of the American Art Therapy Association and Florida Art Therapy Association, and recently served as president of the Florida State University Art Therapy Association. Jessie is interested in gender issues, particularly the areas of relationship violence, socioeconomic factors and cultural gender roles. Her other professional interests include developmental issues, existential concerns, and the use of expressive arts in therapy. Clinically, Jessie uses a humanistic orientation, incorporating cognitive-behavioral and existential art therapy approaches.

Ilese Weingarten, MSW, LCSW, CAP
Outreach Coordinator
Certified Addiction Professional
Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Ilese received her Master of Clinical Social Work degree from FSU in 1986. She was licensed as a Clinical Social Worker and certified as an Addiction Professional in 1989. She is the Coordinator of Outreach Services and the RENEW program, a peer education organization sponsored by The UCC. Her professional interests include outreach to the university community, addressing harmful and addictive behaviors such as alcohol, other drugs, gambling, eating disorders. She specializes in Women’s issues, such as body image, self-esteem, assertiveness and family of origin concerns including Adult Children of Alcoholics, Addicts, and those with mental illness in the family. Her theoretical orientation draws from strength- based intervention, psychodynamic, motivational interviewing, solution focused, cognitive behavioral, and relapse prevention. She is a member of the FSU Healthy Campus 2010 committee, College of Social Work Field Advisory Committee and is a faculty fellow Field Instructor with the FSU College of Social Work.

desaree Désarée Festa Dreher, M.S.
RENEW Coordinator


Désarée is the RENEW coordinator (Realizing Everyone’s Need for Emotional Wellness), which is a peer educator program sponsored by the University Counseling Center. Désarée is an advanced Ph.D. student in the Combined Program in Counseling Psychology and School Psychology. She earned her Master’s of Science degree in Sport Psychology from Florida State University. Désarée received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern University located in the Philadelphia suburbs of Pennsylvania.  She is interested in college success, life transitions, and overall/holistic well-being (mental, emotional, and physical).
